The Canada-U.S. Land border just opened on November 8 for non-essential travel for vaccinated travelers, and for many it can’t happen soon enough. This is the first time the border has been opened for travel in over a year and a half, and from family reunions to long-awaited trips, Canadians and Americans alike are thrilled. For those looking for a short break in the United States, Buffalo, New York, is an ideal destination. Aside from shopping, Bills and the Cheesecake Factory, there are many reasons to visit our neighbor to the south.

Visit Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House

Internationally known as one of the most important figures in 20th century architecture and design, Martin House in Buffalo is a prime example of the work of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Martin House highlights Wright’s ability to beautifully connect the natural world to built structures. Maison Martin, designed between 1903 and 1905, offers guided group tours and self-guided tours, as well as virtual tours, architectural photography workshops and, depending on the season, candlelight tours.

Anchor Bar is home to the original Buffalo-style chicken wing. When bartender Dominic Bellissimo and his mother, Teresa, fried wings and coated them in homemade hot sauce in 1964, they had no idea they were creating a global phenomenon. As one of the oldest art galleries in the United States, the Albright-Knox is known as a museum bringing together, conserving and exhibiting modern and contemporary art.
