Stuck and wasted: Melbourne Music Poster Expo arrives at District X in District Docklands from Friday November 26 to December 31, 2021

The essential start of the month for any pre-2010 music lover was to go to the newsagents and grab a fresh copy of your favorite music magazine, come home and plaster your bedroom walls with it. the central group’s music posters.

Nick Vukovic recognized this art form under a bridge in South Melbourne. The enthusiastic admirer has tracked down the address of John D’Aquino, a North Melbourne printing house owner, who sparked a 40-year adventure in the world of poster collecting.

Kicking off the collectibles conquest with The Angels, Midnight Oil, Rose Tattoo, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and AC / DC, Vukovic’s collection quickly expanded and he is now inviting music lovers of all generations to its museum of posters of touring groups.

Stuck and Wasted: Melbourne Music Poster Expo will be exhibiting at District X in the Docklands District later this month with thousands of historic musical moments to see.

“I haven’t been to hardly any shows – I just love this art form! All the posters are from my collection, ”explains Vukovic.

“Before the final decision and the curation [of Pasted and Wasted], we dropped 4,000 posters to choose from [of which we’ve selected 800] but there are more at home. I acquired them from collectors, eBay, auction sites, printers donations (Melbourne and Sydney printers donated ‘tons’, twice I brought home a car full of Sydney posters – a station wagon that got so heavy it hit the train tracks every time I crossed the tracks) and promoters, and people who wanted to be mentioned in the book in which I was involved with Murray Walding titled “Plastered”.

Melbourne’s music scene is unique in its diversity, plethora of talent and evolution and Stuck and lost fully reflects these qualities, while providing customers with a way into the past.

“We have about 1,000 items on display, including t-shirts, laminates, flyers, photographs, as well as posters. The exhibition will cover many genres, artists, decades and themes, ”he said.

“No matter what decade or genre you like, we’ve got something for everyone. From 60s Flower Power to 70s Pub Rock. From punk and indie to grunge and heavy metal. We reflect also the digitization of 2000s music and the rise of Australian hip hop. For young and old alike we want to bring back memories of those times when they went to this or that show and bought a ticket, can -being a t-shirt, but more importantly, we want to get them excited to relive the music and the events live. “

The Stuck and lost The exhibit, supported by the City of Melbourne, comes at a time when live music is struggling, and in Melbourne, virtually non-existent in 2020 and 2021. For Vukovic, the intention is to help rekindle the physical nature of the live music scene.

“We want to encourage people to come back to the city after several months of COVID-19 restrictions. We are trying to rekindle interest in music, and in this case in graphic art as well as live music, ”he says.

Stuck and lost

Rightly so, the launch of Stuck and lost, which kicks off from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th November 2021, helps reignite the music fire and reactivation of Melbourne’s small businesses, with live music, a pop-up fair and music briefings.

“The programming of music and information sessions is still being finalized. We hope to announce it very soon. We are working closely with The District Docklands to put it all together. The pop-up fair covers everything related to music – vinyl records, CDs, merchandise, souvenirs, photography, concert promotion, books, etc.

“There will be no cost to the traders. We want to help small businesses that suffered during COVID restrictions gain access to music lovers visiting the exhibit. “
