G Style’s Best Photography Items For Myself This Holiday Season [2021] – G Style Magazine

With a global supply chain disaster from the pandemic underway, if holiday shopping is on your to-do list this year, it’s best to start early. As in previous years, I will precede this list with the following: this is a personal wish list and not necessarily something that I would say you should buy for the photographer of your life (but you can always ask ).

Cameras

I’ve had the opportunity to review the Fujifilm X-S10 twice and it really strengthened my love of the system. The X-S10 departs from the retro aesthetic of other Fujifilm X-series cameras, but it’s still a pleasure to use. This year I find myself considering purchasing an updated full frame camera (my Sony a7S II is getting long in the tooth) and strongly considering the Panasonic S5. But it’s more for work, for my personal shooting I will always be heavily invested in Fujifilm’s APS-C options and the X-S10 and X-Pro 3 are still my main considerations.

Lentils

Tamron recently announced its new 18-300mm f / 3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD – an all-in-one lens designed for APS-C sensors and, more importantly, the first third-party lens for the X System. -Mount with full AF capabilities. This really stands out as being so much more than your typical jack of all trades kit lenses as it is ‘moisture resistant’ allowing you to go out with confidence (just make sure your camera is weatherproof as well) and get up close with a very impressive 0.15m minimum focus distance.

While I will surely be looking for some new L mount lenses when I end up buying this Panasonic S5, the Tamron 18-300mm X-mount really caught my eye – maybe even more so than the upcoming Fujifilm XF23mmf / 1.4 WR2, that says a lot.

Jump in the video

My recent review of the Manfrotto MVG-220 really got me thinking about videography and the tools needed to try it out. Obviously, picking up the gimbal focus props is one thing, but it’s also a good time to think about lighting and light modifiers.

The Neewer brand of lamps seems like a good place to start with their relatively low entry cost. The 18-inch Neewer LED Light Kit is compact with the lighting controls needed to provide a good working base, especially in a small space like an apartment in New York City.

What I would like to be blessed with this year are things / objects that put my interest in photography a little more in the foreground of those around me. I reviewed the Fracture Glass Print for another site very early in their launch and found it new but limited in size options. Fast forward a few years and now I think I’m ready to take the plunge and print something for the house. Yes, I agree that I am requesting a gift card but it is a card that will interest me.

Clothing is a big deal, especially if you are winter walking in NYC and want to be comfortable while taking photos. While this specific hoodie is not really “necessary”, I like to support local and independent businesses where possible and the Miles Culture “Dirt” hoodie fits the bill.

As I mentioned at the start of this “guide”, there is always a pandemic out there, and it has taken its toll on the global supply chain and the ability to get products from manufacturers to consumers. If you are going to go shopping, do your shopping as early as possible. If you’re shopping in a store, be nice to those who work – they don’t want to be there any more than you want to know that the thing you’re looking for is out of stock until 2023.
