“Creature Comforts” juried exhibition at the Niza Knoll Gallery
The collective trauma of recent years has led many people to discover or rekindle their interest in whatever brings them joy, comfort or distraction. The Niza Knoll Gallery invited artists to submit works that relate to or express those people, places, objects or activities that provide the most comfort. Accepted works will be exhibited in Creature Comforts, a show with jury which runs from July 28 to September 3, 2022 in the gallery at 915 Santa Fe Drive. Subjects range from soothing nature scenes that draw the viewer into a peaceful moment, to iconic TV characters enjoying a glass of orange juice, invoking contentment and nostalgia from watching a favorite rerun. Genres include painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and, of note, unique mixed media works made with preserved and polished fish bones arranged in a delightful and unexpected tableau.
The public is invited to view and purchase works during regular business hours Thursday through Sunday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., for the duration of the fair and during the following special events:
Sunday July 31, 12 p.m.-3 p.m. – Santa Fe Art Walk Sunday Opening Reception
Friday, August 5, 4-9 p.m. – First Friday Art Walk
Santa Fe Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic during the Art Walk on the first Friday in August and is a fantastic way to experience the neighborhood, with plenty of room to stroll. The Niza Knoll Gallery may require masks to come in as cases of the latest variant Covid surge in Denver.
The show features works by the following artists: Cecilia Calles, Teresa Castaneda, Alissa Davies, Daniel Eisenberg, Robyn Eubanks, Peggy Flynn, Susan C. Gregory, Dawn Hendrix, Birdley James, Mike Keene, Mark Kreger, Carrie MaKenna, Michael Martinez, Ala Park, Marlene Plomske, Randall Steinke, Marlene Viloria, Karen Winfield, Amber Winston-Squires, Samantha Wuestman
